We started the day off visiting a private garden in Tijuca forest owned by a wealthy family. This garden was designed by Burle Marx as a favor to the family. If you haven’t kept up with our blog thus far, Burle Marx is a famous Brazilian landscape designer whose work is prominent in Rio and many places throughout the world. Although pictures of the home were not allowed, the garden surrounded a beautiful Portuguese style ranch. After exploring the garden for some time, we were invited for a lovely lunch of tea sandwiches, juices, coffee, and tea at the ranch. If you’ve never tried watermelon juice, you should.
Following this, we took a stop for a scenic view in front of a waterfall. We also visited Museo Do Acude which featured prominent Brazilian baroque style art, some of which we’ve already seen in other exhibits. To finish off the day, we took a 15 minute leisurely hike through Tijuca forest. As a reward for our wonderful and mature behavior, Sue treated us to some ice cream.
